The retrospective analysis of confirmed cases reported has revealed factors favoring the onset of atypical myopathy in equine animals as well as factors contributing to the prevention of the disease. These factors relate to the horses, the environment as well as the management of equines and pastures.
These factors have been identified through epidemiological studies undertaken at European level. Differences exist between the various countries affected by atypical myopathy. The study of these differences between countries will certainly make it possible to better specify the risk factors for the disease; this is why we encourage horse owners and veterinarians with cases of atypical myopathy to send us information about these cases by answering clinical and epidemiologicalquestionnaires (see below).
